Water Rafting Malaysia
NENGGIRI RIVER EXPEDITIONS
Gua Musang, Kelantan
|
Greeting at Montaine Menara Weld Center or BallzAction, Bangsar,
Kuala Lumpur.
Montaine and BallzAction market and operate White Water Rafting
sport with our strategic parther - Khersonese Expeditions Sdn. Bhd
(KESB) who are pioneering river rafting activities in Peninsular
Malaysia and experience in organising such of activities since
1993.
Nenggiri is one of the main tributaries of the Kelantan river.
Located at the border of Kelantan and Perak, its starts as Sungai Berok,
flowing east towards Gua Musang where meets Sungai Betis. From there, it
flows as Sungai Nenggiri.
Enveloped by
400 million-year old limestone rock formations and lined with pristine
vegetation, the Nenggiri flows with grace and beauty. The river is ideal for
beginners and those who wish to take things easy. The stretches of calm
water enable, the not so fit to indulge in bird watching and enjoy the green
surroundings.
Nenggiri's
assets are many - swift rapids, bountiful vegetation, magnificent limestone
formations and caves. There are Gua Peraling, Gua Cha, Cua Chawan and Gua
Yahaya. Gua Yahaya has the most captivating rock formations while Gua Chawan
has a pool of natural spring water which is collected in a cup-shaped rock,
hence the name Chawan which means cups in Bahasa Malaysia. Of all the caves,
only Gua Cha has been studied.
It was first explored by H.D Noone in 1935. Noone, the
assistant ethnographer at the Perak Museum, was doing research on the
Ple-Temiar group of orang asli around the Kelantan-Perak border when he
first discovered Gua Cha.
Gua Cha lies
about 16 km from the orang asli settelement of Kuala Betis. It is on the
left bank of the Nenggiri river. Shaped like a rock-shelter, it is about
18m-long, with a maximum width of approximately 18m. it is accessible by
various means, although the most convenient route is to travel down
Nenggriri from Kampung Kuala Betis, which is connected to Gua Musang by a
logging track.
Rapids grades from Grade 2 to Grade 3. Total rafting distance about 60
kilometres. |
