WHY HAVE CORPORATE MASSAGE?
The Touch
Research Institute has documented the positive effects of massage
therapy on
job performance and stress reduction. A brief chair massage resulted in
decreased job stress, increased alertness and a significant boost in
productivity. Simple math computations were completed in half the time with
half the errors following massage therapy. Current research studies by the
Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami's School of Medicine
According to Newsweek Magazine (April 6, 1998) "Doctors have started
prescribing massage to help patients manage stress and pain."
"Scientists are now finding that massage can reduce blood pressure,
boost the immune system, dampen harmful stress hormones and raise
mood-elevating brain chemicals such as serotonin.
Whether you provide a Stress Recess massage to your staff on a regular
basis, during especially demanding periods, or as a special treat during a
sales meeting or retreat, massage can really make a difference in
productivity, job satisfaction, and health. Here are some of the ways
massage is helping our clients:
Employee Hiring and Retention: Our healthy economy means that these days
the most valuable workers can take their pick of excellent jobs. Many
organizations therefore face a stiff challenge attracting and keeping good
employees. Ernst and Young even found that investors are now more likely to
buy stock based on a company's ability to attract talented people! Massage
therapy programs help to increase job satisfaction and create a caring
environment that employees really appreciate, and massage is much less
expensive than many employee benefits a company can offer.
A massage program can even help attract skilled workers in the first
place. In one recent article, IT manager Glen Gracia said that one of the
things that drew him to apply at Rourke was their policy to provide
employees with an allowance for relaxing activities such as massage.
Lower Workplace Stress Stress-related employee turnover, absenteeism and
waning morale all affect the bottom line. Job stress and related problems
cost companies millions of dollars each year. According to The International
Labour Organization 1999, World Labour Report stated "job stress costs
the US economy $200 billion annually through diminished productivity,
compensation claims, absenteeism, health insurance and direct medical
expenses". Similar trends are evident in our very own Australia also!
At Montaine, our clients tell us that after our visits they can feel the
morale lift in the office. Our corporate massage techniques measurably lower
the day to day stress of the competitive workplace. Relaxed workers are more
likely to cooperate with each other, and lowering stress lowers both anxiety
and hostility, improving the work environment for everyone. Deal with a
Crunch or a Crisis Massage can help your team get through a demanding time
or reward them for their extra effort. A number of our customers use massage
to relieve the stress of restructuring, moving, budget season, or other
hectic times of the year. Others call us in to help keep everyone healthy
and on the job when a deadline or product launch is causing stress. Some of
our clients even send Montaine therapists as a gift to their clients to show
support during stressful times!
Improve Productivity Massage can significantly improve employee problem
solving abilities. A recent study in American Psychologist gave one group of
workers a 15 minute rest, and another, a 15 minute massage. The group that
received the massage performed significantly better on complicated tasks
like math problems. Massage also improves creative thinking and relieves
fatigue. It's better than a cup of coffee! In addition, by lowering stress,
massage helps eliminate absenteeism, making your team more competitive.
"Massage addressed the symptoms of stress," says Bruce Kelly, a
consultant with William M. Mercer, the benefits firm, about massage at one
company. "It offers people relief and helps them perform better."
Improve Health Massage can help keep your employees healthy as well as
happy. Massage has been shown to reduce blood pressure, relieve arthritis,
improve joint and muscle aches especially in painful areas of the neck and
back, and even increase immunity to colds and flu! In addition, massage can
play a very important role is preventing and treating the pain and numbness
associated with excessive keyboard and mouse use.
Companies such as Merrill Lynch, Coco Cola, and IBM have determined that
providing massage in the work place is good for their bottom line. Why?
Chair massage yields higher revenues for these companies by decreasing
workplace stress, turnover and sick days, while increasing productivity,
employee morale and company loyalty. Montaine transforms a conference room
or appropriate setting with amenities creating an atmosphere of calm
restoration and rejuvenation. For the purpose of renewed balance, mental
clarity, and increased productivity, energy enhancing amenities are combined
with massage, giving each individual a lasting feeling of 'Relaxed
Alertness' and overall wellbeing.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What is the CORPORATE SEATED MASSAGE?
This is basically a method of muscle manipulation, pressure point relaxation therapy and energy
balancing applied to specific points throughout the body. Special attention
is focused on high stress areas including the scalp, ears, neck, shoulders,
and back.
Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage session will take
place in a quiet room. Soft music will be played for relaxation. You will
sit on a chair that has been specially designed for your comfort.
Who will perform the massage?
Your 20-minute session will be conducted by
a massage professional who has received proper training. All massage
practitioners are certified and insured.
Must I be undressed?
Most massage & bodywork are traditionally
performed with the client unclothed; however in the corporate setting the
massage recipient is always fully clothed. You may decide to unbutton you
collar, roll up your sleeves, and remove your jewellery in order to have the
arms and hands massaged with greater ease.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical chair massage session
will include work on your head, neck, shoulders, and back.
Will oils or lotions be used?
A light oil or lotion may be used only on
your arms and hands. The oils & lotions used should hydrate the skin and
be readily absorbed. Special Aromatherapy oils can also be used for specific
reasons.
What will the massage feel like?
It depends on the techniques used. In
general, your session may start with concentration on deeper breathing and
gentler massage strokes to help calm your nervous system and relax exterior
muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be
increased to relax specific areas and relieve muscular tension.
How long will the session last?
The average session lasts 20-minutes.
Many people may request more time for deeper work when they are feeling
discomfort due to overused muscles, migraine headaches, or stress related
injuries.
What should I do during the massage?
Make yourself comfortable. Many
people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk
during their massage session. Feel free to ask the massage therapists
questions about the massage in general or about any particular technique you
are receiving.
How will I feel after the massage?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some
experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or
repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people
often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater
productivity which can last for days.
What are the benefits of massage & upper bodywork?
Massage or upper
bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve
circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue
and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve
posture, reduce blood pressure, and counter balance travel fatigue.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or upper
bodywork inadvisable?
Before you begin your session, the massage therapist
will ask you a few general questions. It is very important that you inform
the practitioner of any health problems. If you are under a doctors care it
is advisable that you receive a written recommendation for massage.
